Five people kept the label in working order as Humble Wizard’s recordings grew in scale. Archival portraits will be added to this register in due course.
Founder / Managing Director
Harcourt established Astrolabe Records in 1978, approaching the label less as an exercise in expansion than as a means of giving unusually ambitious recordings the time and infrastructure required to exist. His role remained practical: financing, distribution, contracts, and keeping the operation functional as the scale of Humble Wizard’s work increased.
Artist Management / Label Operations
Wren oversaw the practical machinery of the label: schedules, contracts, manufacturing coordination, touring logistics, and the growing number of details surrounding each release. Her work placed her at the centre of the day-to-day relationship between Astrolabe and Humble Wizard.
Producer / Recording Supervisor
Mercer served as Astrolabe’s principal technical liaison during recording and mixing. His role was less to impose a signature sound than to make increasingly elaborate arrangements technically achievable while retaining the band’s intent.
Art Director / Press & Publications
Finch oversaw Astrolabe’s visual presentation across sleeve layouts, promotional photography, printed material, press kits, and catalog design. As Humble Wizard’s visual identity became more deliberate, the label’s own presentation developed alongside it.
Production Manager
Shaw handled manufacturing and physical production logistics, later becoming increasingly involved in the practical requirements surrounding Humble Wizard’s growing stage apparatus and promotional productions.
